Effects of Pandemic on Daycares and Child Development:
The global pandemic Covid-19 has uprooted our lives. Even before the arrival of Covid crisis, we witnessed the global childcare crisis but the pandemic has put the childcare crisis at stake.
In other words, the situation has worsened.
The work of childcare is majorly done by Women
in most of the regions. With Coronavirus engulfing our everyday routine,
there’s no doubt in the chaos created by Covid in daycares.

An estimation says that over 35 million
children under five years of age are sometimes left without supervision of
adults which is a factor often linked to economic pressures on parents and
their work-life balance. With the impact of the covid outbreak, 99 percent of
the world’s 2.36 billion children found themselves in a country with some
restrictions in movements and activities including 60 per cent under some form
of lock-down. This has resulted in childcare collapse and Covid in Daycares
confronted great challenges.
The need for childcare has expanded in these 2
years as Covid-19 has impacted our lives in a way that the health of children
cannot be neglected for a bit. According to a report, over 35 million children
under the age of 5 sometimes lack adult supervision. This also results in lack
of care and vigilance. Women play a major role in childcare. Employed women
fall short of time and fail to pay enough attention to the children and
similarly men do not get time either. The lockdown affected childcare services
to people. We can say that, children who belonged to daycare had bad effects
of daycare on child development.
The childcare system is at a risk of crumbling due to the economic impact. Childcare providers are shutting down their services. The requirement has dropped off due to the global pandemic and lockdown situation in most of the countries. Families had a question- Are daycares safe during Covid? However, this has affected the working families community. They spoke about their problems and demanded to provide services despite the current situation and to have solutions for covid in daycares. If they continue to provide services during Covid-19 crisis, it may be harmful to both the team and families.
Are Daycares safe during Covid?
The childcare providers are also facing other
issues related to income. Some families are reluctant towards signing up for
these programs owing to the pandemic. It has become difficult to fill spots for
the childcare providers. This attacked the income of the people involved in the
childcare system. They are unable to run their families without steady income.
Will Daycares close due to Coronavirus?
As this is their mainstream profession, covid
in daycares brought unprecedented impact. They are deprived of jobs and
financial support as a consequence of the pandemic. The system is losing
workers too and the team is diminishing. Another reason as to why the team is
reducing in number is the inability of childcare centres to pay regular wages.
Some childcare centres have gone from numbers like 81 kids a day to 2. This
indicates the grave effect because of Coronavirus.
As
there is no requirement of these services, the employees are back at home. The
centres have to financially support the employees so that they return to work
when the requirement arises. They also need money to maintain the centres and
pay their bills. This is another serious issue that has arisen. As a result,
Daycares are closing due to coronavirus.
Shortage of supplies has become a matter of
concern to the centres. To abide by the new regulations for maintaining
hygiene, they need disinfectant material and other essentials. Insufficient
money is not permitting them to buy essentials like sanitizers, spray, wipes,
tissues etc. Some are still providing services to only frontline workers
because they also need someone to take care of their families. When these
services close, either of the parents are forced to stay at home to take care
of the child/children and the other is able to go out for work. This cuts down
on one income.
This way the families are being affected by the collapse of this system. The parents who signed the contract for months have to continue to pay even after the closing of centres. These policies are a loss for both the childcare system and families.
Pandemic has evidently affected most parts of our lives and we are still learning to adapt to new methods of living. On an overall estimation, the pandemic has caused loss to every other business, trade and occupation along with constantly keeping our lives at risk. A lot of adjustments are being made to live and work smoothly in such a life-threatening environment.
